A fluorescent solar light is a little uncommon because most solar powered lights make use of light-emitting diodes, or LEDs. This is because LEDs are more reliable, long-lasting, and require a lower amount of power. However, fluorescent lights are cheaper and capable of creating a more diffused effect, while LEDs cost a bit more and tend to have more focused beams.

Uses for a fluorescent solar light are varied. Many people look for solar-powered lanterns or traveling lights which are fluorescent. Lights for workrooms, sheds, and garages are also found in this style.

A fluorescent solar light is less commonly used as a walkway light especially. But they are still available if someone strongly prefers it.
